In collaboration with the Rollins School of Public Health and the CDC's Division of Global Health Protection, Emergency Response, and Recovery Branch, this course introduces basic concepts and principles of communicating during a global crisis or emergency. It explores why communication during an emergency is different and the importance of adapting emergency messages to the needs of affected populations. Through sample scenarios, you will get the opportunity to identify information needs and develop useful messages using six guiding principles to help you communicate effectively and promote behaviors that reduce health risks during an emergency.

The course is quite informatic towards communicating in crisis emergency situations in different populations and age groups. lot of good tips for communicating with the community and how to be a good effective spokesperson is also very nicely mentioned. Disaster preparedness and management information is also very nicely given and the measures to act accordingly. How to deal with children in difficult situations, how to relate with the public health problems by looking at their perspective , connecting to them through right messages, at the right time, place and person. The entire course is very useful and has added on to my information and is infact helping me in relating to the challenges and issues faced by the community and how to address the issues faced specially during an emergency in the best possible manner.

This is a nice course you can use as a guideline to communicate more effectively during a crisis situation. It is straight-forward and short, you can easily complete it in one-go. It contains useful supplementary tools which can assist you to better organise and prepare.
It is important to have an action plan even before a crisis occurs, so that you can more efficiently respond to it once it emerges. Would had loved to see more examples of real life situations, either imaginary or perhaps past events, as well as for the assignments to potentially consist of case studies.
