I absolutely LOVED this course. Just the ability to find a FREE Korean resource that still had a classroom structure was amazing in and of itself but then to top it off the course gave a lot of useful points on grammar and everyday conversation. There was also a forum for each week where you could see and post questions that the mentors and staff would answer - THOROUGHLY. And for anyone who audits the course and couldn't make the deadline you could switch sessions as many times as you wanted in order to stay on track and turn your assignments in on time.

I finished this course a while ago and now I'm on the last week for its continuation "Learn to Speak Korean 1" and I will say that the organization and structure for "Learn to speak Korean 1" is better than "First Step Korean" but the information "First Step Korean" provides you will help you be very prepared for the next course.

This is a great course for beginners looking to learn Korean. While it is not perfect, taking notes during the lectures, revising them and putting what you learned into conversationcan really make learning through this course easier.

You can download Google's Korean keyboard onto your smartphone and use apps like HelloTalk to practice conversing in Korean.

I thought the pace of the course was alright. There is no one sure shot way to learn a language and every person has a different method of learning. This course provides the right learning materials and guidance to help you learn but ultimately, it is up to you to do it. Remember, don't give up. Good luck!

I found that the course started off at a decent pace, and things were explained nicely, with plenty of use of the International Phonetic Alphabet. However, as it went on, the IPA was not being used, and you were only told that 'even the Koreans find these ones confusing' came long after the confusion had arisen. The pace was too fast and it was difficult to learn the whole alphabet in one chunk - I would have preferred to learn it more slowly, but remember more.

I took this course last May, really enjoyed the whole learning process. The course is well developed, substantial, really easy to follow. Moreover, the professior is beautifully articulate and expressive that helped to make my first step in Korean easily and smoothly. I highly recommend this course to everyone who is interested in Korean!

A very nice introductory course for people who (like me) are interested to learn the Korean language but have no previous experience. I have been watching some programmes produced in Korea for the past few years so am familiar with a few phrases but had not formally learned before this. I found the learning curve unsurprisingly steep to begin with as I struggled initially to get to grips with the alphabet and thus got stuck on the first week, but pushed by deadlines I moved on to subsequent weeks lectures anyway with the help of a printed copy of the alphabet to refer to and actually found it easier to improve my command of the alphabet this way. I am now taking "Learn to Speak Korean 1" which is the follow up to this course (although there is some overlapping material) which is equally good.
