Cultural Diversity in Your Classroom

School Education Gateway - Teacher Academy via Independent

Overview

The course offers teachers an opportunity to access useful resources and exchange with peers on the challenging topic of cultural diversity in classrooms. The course is part of a 3-part series of courses exploring the topic of cultural diversity, the situation of newly arrived migrants in general and how to integrate newly arrived migrant students in schools and classrooms.

In this first course of the series, participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences of working with a culturally diverse student body, to discuss different scenarios of the positive use of cultural diversity as a learning context, to analyse teaching and other resources under the prism of effective intercultural communication, and last but not least to develop classroom activities that will potentially recognise and strengthen the class community as a culturally diverse environment.

The course is relevant to any teacher working in a culturally diverse environment or interested in developing students’ cultural awareness and expression.

The course lasts 3 weeks covering two modules. Module 1 looks at how to develop intercultural competences, and Module 2 explores how to recognize and value cultural diversity for learning in the classroom.

Module 2: Recognising cultural diversity for learning in everyday practice

A classroom is the best example of unit9in diversity as students are from different backgrounds and abilities. Everyone have a unique understanding of the school and environment, all have a hidden talent we need to find out and explore. In my view a classroom is the best place to work on building up and learning more about the mankind to develop the skills and knowledge and convert them into wisdom.
