This free online course explains Europe as a cultural and political product.

We revisit perceived truths about the meaning of European identity. We examine how cultural knowledge and facts were constructed to further post-World War II integration. We will help you understand and identify the complexities of the contemporary crises of European integration and support you in developing novel responses to these crises.

We cover such topics as European culture, religion, modernity, the nation-state, democracy and the Other.

The course has been developed by the Euroculture programme, a multi-university master’s and research programme on European culture and politics.

This course is designed for learners with a personal and/or professional interest in Europe, politics and culture. Those with some pre-knowledge of European history, culture and politics will find this course to be interesting and enriching. Those who studied Europe from either a political or cultural point of view will find much in this course that complements their previous studies. It is ideal for humanities and social sciences students and graduates, policy makers and those working in non-government organisations (NGOs).

Kênia is taking this course right now.
This course is multidisciplinary, involving themes as European and EU politics, economy and social aspects, with a cultural focus. My knowledge on Europe has increased exponentially and I am so grateful to be part of this group, sharing and listening to new thoughts and dreams. I strongly recommend this course to anyone who wants to expend its cognition on Europe and also, in general, learn more about culture and transculturality, globalization, democracy, liberalization, etc. I thank all professors and other people involved in this amazing program, and I hope in 2019 to become a Euroculture Master Program student.

Nicola is taking this course right now, spending 4 hours a week on it and found the course difficulty to be medium.
As an introduction to the culture and politics of Europe this course is hard to beat. The University of Groningen has set a high standard for MOOCs and this course is no exception. The topics were varied, the material very well-presented and there were plenty of suggestions for further reading and further research for those who were interested. The pace was about right and the opportunities to interact with other students enriched the material further. I would certainly highly recommend this course to anyone who is interested in learning more about Europe.
