Overview

Uncover the turbulent history of Tudor England and its lasting impact

From magnificence and martyrs to weddings and war, the Tudor period was one of the most eventful in British history. The reigns of the five (or was it six?) monarchs during the late fifteenth to seventeenth century has enthralled historians, students and television and film producers alike.

On this course you will compare the rule of the Tudor monarchs and examine the significant political, religious and cultural changes of the period. You will be taught by renowned scholars on Tudor England from the University of Roehampton who will reveal how this era has shaped modern-day British politics.

This course is for anyone with a general interest in the British monarchy, heritage and history. This includes students studying the Tudors in English, drama or history courses.

by Dave completed this course, spending 10 hours a week on it and found the course difficulty to be easy.
There are some pluses with the course. It covers a lot and the contributions from students in the discussion forum is extensive (probably averaging 400 responses to each question posed by the course team) and there were many useful contributions. However, the course tries to cover far too much for a 6 week course. The advertised 5 hours per week is nowhere near enough time if you are going to contribute actively to the forum. There was also inadequate visible support from the educators - one mentor who did a good job, but needed far more help.

There were well over 100 questions posed by the team - one at the end of every section. This resulted in some repetition. Most of the questions could not be answered adequately without going beyond the material provided in the course.

There were also a number of errors in the material (although many were corrected).
