This accelerated 6-hour course with labs introduces AWS professionals to the core capabilities of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) in the four technology pillars: networking, compute, storage, and database. It is designed for AWS Solution Architects and SysOps Administrators familiar with AWS features and setup and want to gain experience configuring GCP products immediately. With presentations, demos, and hands-on labs, participants get details of similarities, differences, and initial how-tos quickly. If you prefer to learn fast by doing, this course is for you.

Learning Objectives

This course teaches participants the following skills:
● Identify GCP counterparts for Amazon VPC, subnets, routes, NACLs, IGW, Amazon EC2, Amazon EBS, auto-scaling, Elastic Load Balancing, Amazon S3, Amazon Glacier, Amazon RDS, Amazon Redshift, AWS IAM, and more
● Configure accounts, billing, projects, networks, subnets, firewalls, VMs, disks, auto scaling, load balancing, storage, databases, IAM, and more
● Manage and monitor applications
● Explain feature and pricing model differences
● Locate documentation and training.

To get the most of out of this course, participants should have basic proficiency with networking technologies like subnets and routing. Students are also expected to have experience with Amazon VPC, Amazon EC2 instances, and disks. Familiarity with Amazon S3 and AWS database technologies is recommended.

Module 1: Intro to Google Cloud Platform
-In this module we will introduce Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure and compare with the Amazon Web Service (AWS) terms. Understanding Google's fiber backbone in the delivery of data to the edge is an important part of this module.

Module 2: Setting Up Accounts and Billing
-In this module we will introduce how you manage your accounts, billing and resources in GCP. You will understand how the AWS concepts of accounts and billing differ in GCP. Also compared is how resource management is implemented in GCP as opposed to AWS. You will perform a lab that shows you how to use GCP to create an organisation and add a billing account, a project, and administrators.

Module 3: Networking
-In this module we will compare and contrast the virtual network features of GCP and AWS. This will be shown using a side-by-side comparison of deploying virtual machines in AWS and then GCP. In a lab you will explore GCP networking.

Module 4: Working with VM Instances
-In this module we will compare and contrast the GCP Compute Engine and AWS EC2 services. You will learn the various GCP terms for the VM instance parts (e.g. disks, images, types) and how you create and manage Compute Engine VM instances. You will also learn about the different way you connect to your VMs using Compute Engine. The lab will take you through the process of launching, connecting to, and installing an application, onto a VM.

Module 5: Scaling and Load Balancing Apps
-In this module we will compare and contrast the scaling and application load balancing features of GCP and AWS. You will learn the benefits that Google's global fiber network brings to allow for more responsive and flexible solutions. In the lab you will configure a scaling solution using an instance group, an instance template and a load balancer.

Module 6: Isolating Instances and Apps
-In this module we explore the GCP network and learn how you can build custom networks from scratch to meet your needs. You will learn that subnets are administrative tools and they do not inherently separate traffic. You will also learn that GCP networks are a property of projects, but that you can share or peer them or connect them via virtual private networks (VPNs). In the lab you will create a custom network and use firewall rules to create a public frontend and private backend.

Module 7: Using Storage as a Service
-In this module, we will explore concepts related using object storage services in the Cloud. In the lab you create a bucket and perform object operations using the command line tools.

Module 8: Using Database as a Service
-In this module we will compare and contrast the Database as a Service (DBaaS) offerings of GCP and AWS. You will learn the GCP DBaaS offerings and their equivalent AWS service. In the lab you will use Google BigQuery to load and analyze data.

Module 9: Deployment and Monitoring
-In this module we will examine Deployment Manager and Stackdriver. You will compare them with the equivalent AWS offerings. In the lab you will deploy a deployment configuration including templates.

Jason H
by Jason completed this course, spending 1 hours a week on it and found the course difficulty to be very easy.
Very robotically delivered and too expensive for the amount of content. $60 for less than an hour of dry lectures and really trivial quizzes. This should be a YouTube developer evangelist series, not a paid course.
