Overview

Course Overview: https://youtu.be/g-pt2Q4UhT4

The global environment will continue to degrade until there are significant changes in business practices. In this course, we look at how some firms are responding positively to environmental concerns with new strategies.

We look at 'best practices' of companies across countries and industries from different perspectives. We introduce a very helpful framework to structure your thinking about environment and business strategy. We explore why current destructive business practices are so 'sticky' and resistant to change.

You don’t have to be an environmentalist or a tree-hugger to benefit from this course.

Businesses should respond to change, environment is one of these changes. If you have an interest in the environment and some understanding of business strategy then this course should be useful to you.

Syllabus

Why Be “Green”?
-In this module we look at the problem of business and environment through various lenses. What does it mean for a firm to be “green”? Why would a firm decide to go green and pursue environmental activities? Why is a social license to operate important for green business?

How to be green: Environmental Strategy
-This short module is very important. The first video in this module asks the question does it pay to be green? If it were that simple then all firms would be green. Which is why we need to consider under what circumstances an environmental strategy can be successful. In the second video we introduce a very useful framework for environmental strategies.

Case studies in environmental strategy
-In this module we give examples of businesses that will help you understand more about how the environmental strategy framework works in practice. This will help you identify the most appropriate environmental strategy for a business.

Looking Back and looking ahead in green business
-This is a very unique module and one I find motivating. It takes you back in time to understand how we ended up in an age where business and environment are in conflict. Here we find the origins of the institutions that hold us back from finding solutions.

I like the course that it gives really thorough explanation of how the whole system works from history to problem to the solutions with case studies. I appreciate that the Prof gives us the resources to learn more about what other firms are doing and how we can incorporate this in work. However, I am really disappointed with the online quiz as it never tells you the correct answers even if you passed it so that I can never know what mistakes I have made. I just try the answers one by one for the sake of passing but cannot really understand why my original answer to wrong. I hope something can be done with it so that the online learning experience can more satisfactory.

This Course was incredibly insightful and thorough in providing the platform to engage business and the environment. In a time where the entire world has complete stopped, it is courses like Green Business Strategy that can help us map out how the Post-COVID 19 world should strive to making a low-carbon economy possible. I will definitely be using what I have learned here in my Masters thesis to come.

This course is quite underwhelming as the first three weeks are very basic and dispensable. The last week is very interesting but the related quiz is misleading at best. Some questions aren't written in proper English and some of the answers accepted as right contradict the lectures given: that's a course that needs a professional eye for a rebuild!

The course has great content and I like the delivery bu the professor however, the quizzes are unnecessarily frustrating; the language is particularly tricky and the multiple choice options don't always match the material.

The course is a very important part of our businesses and Industrial activities affects our environment, I enjoyed the course and would give 4 stars for content. There were some spelling and grammatical errors that’s need reviewing, and lastly the quizzes were sometimes confusing, feels like the study text contradicts the answers.

Really great course that changes your perspective about a lot of concepts we always thought it is truth and the right thing to do where in fact, we never really asked ourselves, is it really the right thing to do?.

The course also made it clear the blaming businesses and point fingers at them and asking them to close down just because they're not green is not the right and most suitable response from us, environment candidates. Learning how to look at things from a wider point of view and listen to others is surely the way to do it.

Hey,

Firstly, thank you very much for the opportunity to follow freely the course.

It taught me a lot on the basics of green business strategies and I can already say that I see the world differently now.

More than the content's quality, this is the first online course I have been able to take and it has set the bar very high, after having followed and completed other courses on the same platform or other sites.

Thank you professor for making this course fascinating.

The videos are simple and concise, you understand everything perfectly at once. The optional reading material, on the other hand, varies a lot. You have essays of 30 pages long that for me, an industrial design student that does not study or knows economics too well, this can be very tedious and not interesting. But some short articles and videos are excellent.

Overall the course is very interesting and well given.

Hope this can help me help others.

Thanks!

Whatever the quality of the course syllabus, satisfying the system with appropriate answers in the quizzes was very much disturbing. It seems they don't put effort to improve the course further. Besides, after participating in quizzes, the answers made by the participants should be visible. Even, providing the true feedback in the end of the course via practice quiz was judged with injustice. These anomalies in this course sometimes fade the impact of learning.

I'm a 32 years old Italian vendor, interested in all faces of the Sustainability subject.

This course has opened my eyes on how Sustainability and Business could meet in several ways and not just for environmentalists (or dreamers), but also for businessmen looking for good profits.

I recommend this course for beginners of the Business field, because it's really direct and well explained in a simple manner by prof. Forster.

This was a good introductory course to the subject topic of green business strategies. One of its most influential content for me was the Renato Orsato model - this is easy to recall and to use in future, when it comes to looking at a business or the organization I work in.

The lecturer, Prof Paul Forster, was articulate and well-paced in his explanations, as well as clear in how he broke down the topic.

It was just a nice to read course, but hardly adding something to my need-to-know. I finished it in less than a day, because it all remained to "shallow", lacking any in-depth information. Which was (for me!) quite disappointing for an "academic" course. The best (only) target group is people who don't know anything about sustainability and do need to add something to that.

Anyway, good luck!

Very useful techniques, strategies, sources and cases. It is a great way to initiate the mentality of business thinking models and sustainability. The bibliography is very useful for the course and for future use too. I would have liked to learn more about professional communication of Green Business Strategies within companies, but it still gives tools on how to approach them.

I took this course as a first step to figuring out how I could further specialise myself in environment. I appreciated the different theories and definition mentioned in this course which are easily to grasp. I am looking forward to learning more about how to set up a green business or help a corporation transition towards a more green approach of its business.

Interesting class as it exposes you to key concepts in the Green Business. I was disappointed with the last week on the course, as it didn't seem to be relevant to the overall subject matter.

Finally, the quiz was a waste of time. Didn't give concrete feedbacks and some answers seem to be confusing at best. The quiz for week 4 especially should be reviewed.

The course is great that it’s giving the key points of green business, moreover how today’s business evolved into today’s business. You can find the answer of the questions like; why we should change? How and where the change starts?

However, in my judgement, the quizzes were not productive and well prepared because they were based on memory.

Really interesting topics and materials. This will help you to understang the actual situation and the options that are posible to executed.

It's interesting because not always the firms comprimised with the solutions or to help to make a change, this course bring different ideas that can help and is not about what the countries as government can do.
