This activity will train physicians how to use the new electronic medical records system, which will provide better support of patient care. In this training, participants will learn how to perform the essentials of an office visit and an initial consult visit, including reviewing the chart, documenting problems and diagnoses, writing notes, placing orders, and modifying the treatment plan. They will also review In Basket and see how to follow up on common messages.

Syllabus

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the “In Basket” for any messages that may need participant’s attention;
  • Locate a patient chart in the electronic medical records system;
  • Select relevant information from a patient’s chart;
  • Create a patient note for the specific condition or situation (i.e., progress notes, procedure notes, delivery notes);
  • Respond to any abnormal results (labs, x-rays, etc.) per institutional policy;
  • Enter orders for a patient.
