In the fields of social and health sciences, the spatial analysis techniques introduced in this course are already being used in research published in the peer-reviewed literature. This course gives course participants insights on how to ask good study questions, assemble the needed spatial data, and not only visualize but analyze the data using Esri software. I recommend the course even if, like me, you have several years of experience with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, as you will inevitably be reminded of important analytic steps and new use cases for spatial analysis to inspire your own work.

Wow! I really enjoyed this course very well, it opened my eyes to many capabilities of the of ArcGIS online platform and to understand how user-friendly and quick completion of any analysis whatsoever. I think I'm starting to love the Cloud-Based platform as to compare to the tedious stress with the Local-Based Software.
All thanks to esri and the whole GPSA team in general.
It was tough and it was fun. -
It a very interesting course. Suffice to say that I found the Course was very interesting to me. Its interactive course environment helped me seal through the course easily. I was also able to practice and comprehend what I learnt from the available account to Esri suit. Thank you very much and I look forward to more MOOC.

This MOOC was a great learning experience that gave me a solid foundation in spatial analysis. One of the best parts of the course was the hands-on experience with real-world spatial analysis workflows. The exercises were engaging, allowing me to…

I had a really great time in this course! It's a 6-week MOOC about learning to use Spatial Analysis, specifically in ArcGIS Online using a MOOC-specific login and credits.
Each week a new section opens, with a different emphasis and a new exercise or two. Each week has a discussion prompt that everyone submits one forum post to talk about, and those are a joy to read.
There are no weekly deadlines, just that all the work has to be done by the end of the course (and an extra, 7th week is given for that).
I came to this with decent experience in ArcGIS Pro and none in AGOL, and I learned a lot about AGOL as well as some things I can apply in ArcGIS Pro as well! -
This course has significantly enhanced my understanding of how GIS can be applied to solve real-life problems using spatial data. It has broadened my perspective and provided valuable insights that I can incorporate into my future projects. Before taking this course, my experience with GIS was limited to using only a few functions in ArcGIS Online. However, through this course, I had the opportunity to explore various tools, particularly the Analysis tool, and gain a deeper understanding of its functionality. The course was particularly easy to follow, and I want to thank all the people who put their work in designing this course. Thank you.

It was a comprehensive and hands-on course, easy to follow for anyone who is trying out Spatial Analysis for the first time, like I was.
I like the way it was delivered piecemeal, week-by-week, for the 6 weeks. That way you just focus on the content for each week and practice applying the concepts taught, before moving on to another topic.
The delivery was concise. One simple, short video that summarily explains the concept of focus for the week and then the practice scenario to apply the concept to with comprehensive step-by-step guides and some 'stretch-yourself' activities.
It was fun, and practical all the way. -
Best MOOC I've participated in. Truly for beginners/those that are familiar with ArcGIS Pro and went to learn ArcGIS Online. Each section and the corresponding exercises taught me something valuable and directly applicable to my work. Had zero to very limited (handful) of technical difficulties. MOOC staff very responsive in Forum. The course was also well-paced, and I didn't feel like I was drowning/falling behind at any point. I actually had fun learning and was in awe when I could return to my MOOC notes to apply the skills learned to my real-world scenarios. Thank you Esri and Going Places with Spatial Data MOOC team!

I learnt the importance of asking the right questions, understanding the phenomena and the power of visualization. Your input determines your output (garbage in, garbage out). As a GIS analyst we shouldn't just depend on what we can see when doing analysis but also what we can't see, the errors and much more. I also learnt how to run analysis on choropleth maps to yield normalized values (not by count but by density). These analysis can be done first by overlaying various data frame.
I am glad I partook in this MOOC. Thank you Esri. -
The MOOC was well structured starting from the basics such as spatial data types progressing to more tasking exercises requiring spatial analysis. I was quite impressed by the exercises which required one to put in effort to finish them enabling one to learn in the process. I look forward to applying this newly gained knowledge in my work as I proceed on my journey of using Geographical Information Science to facilitate decision making by availing the necessary data to stake holders. Thank you.

Going Places with Spatial Analysis is one of the easiest mooc I have attended which has learnings associated with any new learner interested to start with Geospatial software. First and foremost it is free learning of professional software ArcMap made available to a learner by ESRI. Second it is selfpaced certificate course. Third its stages of learning are extremely simplified with video lectures by experts. Its having hands on exercises with properly guided steps for a new learner.

This training by ESRI gave me a chance to explore using different functionalities in ArcGIS Map Viewer, which I cannot find anywhere else.
You will learn
- how to access a map published by someone (eg from the course instruction team)
- explore different map layers in ArcGIS Map Viewer
- create new layers based on your analysis
- the thought process behind some geospatial analyses with practical tutorials/exercises
- styling/formatting
-
The course was very helpful with hands on practical application. I have learnt useful information on ArcGIS Pro interface. The only hiccup I had was the application of "Analysis" when working on the practicum. It will be more helpful unblocking the application of "Analysis" under the setup of the ArcGIS Pro to help anyone use the full application of the map during training.

Thanks my mentor Tomr introduced me the MOOC of Esri during the Geospatial Council of Australia Mentoring Program last year .I begun to take participate in the new MOOC which called Going Places with Spatial Analysis from January, just finished all exercises, I have to say I have a lot fun,and I continue to grow my spatial analysis skills throughout the MOOC.
-
Has been an extraordinary journey. The six weeks were full of learning new things and lots of fun. The course truly enhanced my skills and knowledge. It not only gave me the experience of using ArcGIS online but also gave new insights about spatial analysis.
Would love to attend such courses in the future. -
This is one of the best online courses any student can lay their hands on, especially spatial, environmental and geography students. It's so practical and results-oriented. And leaves you with the skills you need for analysis using ArcGIS online. Give it a try and you won't regret.
-
This course really helped me grasp the basic concepts of spatial analysis. With real-world examples that are relatable to every day life, I was able to take away concepts and tools I can use to create maps relating to my environmental work. I highly recommend this MOOC!
-
Surprisingly low-quality course. Every video was read directly off a script, even the outro, and no attempts were made to hide it. Only taught by example and information did not fully stick. For free, I can't complain, but would not pay money for this course. Barely reinforced any of the teachings and all teaching was done through exercises. with no formal teaching of how to apply concepts outside of the exercises.

loved the blend of theory, skills, and practical application practice. Particularly useful if you've never worked in the AGOL environment, or if you're looking for a refresher on basic Spatial & Spatial analysis theory.
