Dartmouth Health Continuing Education for Professionals Home, Medicine Grand Rounds - Aging and Dying in Prison:  Integrating Geriatrics and Palliative Care into Criminal Justice Reform, 3/19/2021 8:00:00 AM - 3/19/2024 9:00:00 AM, Participants in Medicine Grand Rounds will be able to identify the most current treatment guidelines, innovations, and standards of practice, and apply them to improve the care of individual patients, promote health and wellness in the population, and achieve clinical quality and safety goals. These educational activities are grounded in principles of health equity, evidence based medicine, inter-professional teamwork, patient-centered care, and respect for human dignity.

About our Presenter
Dr. Brie Williams™ work focuses on integrating a public health and human rights perspective into criminal justice reform, including the consideration of physical health outcomes in the reform of solitary confinement policies; improving compassionate release policies for incarcerated patients with serious illness so that they are more aligned with the science of prognostication; and optimizing systems for recognizing and responding to disability, dementia, and serious illness in correctional facilities. 

Learning Outcome(s)
Participants will be able to apply geriatric and palliative care models to identify policy recommendations and solutions to improve the functional abilities and care of aging prisoners and their environments.
