Medium-Term Debt Management Strategy

Although I was initially disappointed with this course, I have learned something about debt management after completing it.

The first few modules focus on the technical aspect of the Analytical Tool, a Excel file with built in macros, which is available to you. The study material was quite dry, which I found it like a manual for a software. However, the course become quite interesting toward the end of the course in Module 4, where you run simulations and evaluate different strategies.

Nevertheless, this course could be improved further. The quality of the presentation was not really good compared to other three IMF MOOCs I had completed. You will spend more time reading the text rather watching videos. Secondly, there were very limited real-life examples on successes and failures, which could add color to the study material. Lastly, discussions at the forum were non-existent, if not very limited. I had no response from the staff, after I requested to upload the transcripts for some of the videos.

Overall, this can be a good course if you want to learn something about debt management. Realistically speaking, I am not aware of alternatives, so this could be a valuable experience. If you do decide to take it, do not give up during the first few modules. They are pre-requisite to run simulations and to evalate strategies in Module 4, which I found quite interesting.
