MongoDB for Java Developers

via MongoDB University

Overview

This course will teach you how to use MongoDB as the database for a Java application.

You will play the role of a back-end developer for a Java application, where your job is to implement the application's communication with MongoDB. Using the Java driver you will read and write data to the database, use the aggregation framework, manage the configuration of the database client, and create a robust application by handling exceptions and timeouts.

You'll build the back-end for a movie-browsing application called MFlix.

Using the MongoDB Java Driver, you will implement MFlix's basic functionality. This includes basic and complex movie searches, registering new users, and posting comments on the site.

You will also add more features to the MFlix application. This includes writing analytical reports, increasing the durability of MFlix's connection with MongoDB, and implementing security best practices.

The Mango Languages app is easy to use and the content is high-quality. I enjoyed using the app, but most importantly, I learned a lot! I think the cultural and grammar notes provide value that most other apps miss out on. The courses are also straightforward and build on what you already know.

A very decent introduction to Mongo. The homework and mid-lecture questions were well chosen and fairly graded, as was the exam.

My initial impression was that there would be excessive time spent on additional, unrelated frameworks, like Spark and Freemarker. But this was wrong- only a very small amount of time as spent on them, and the class's focus was right on target, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm a Java serve developer integrating Mongo as our primary data store, for what it's worth.
