All personnel responding to Ebola outbreaks need to have basic knowledge and skills in order to mount an effective response. The GO training package was developed for WHO deployees so they can work safely and effectively as part of the teams bringing outbreaks under control. The learning package consists of 7 modules, which include video lectures and downloadable presentations that have been updated with the latest information and developments. It begins with an introduction to Ebola disease before moving to the response strategy and essential information related to working for WHO. The GO materials are designed to complement the ePROTECT training, which is available here: https://openwho.org/courses/e-protect.

Please note that this course is now being updated. Therefore not all 7 modules are available. You will be notified once the updated content is available. You are encouraged to refresh your knowledge of WHO SOPs for Emergencies by enrolling “WHO Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Emergencies”, which is mandatory to all WHO deployees to respond to emergencies.

  • My review of this course is similar to my eProtect (Ebola) review, as the content was pretty much the same. This course had two modules; the first was a slideshow and quiz, and the second had a lecture on a slideshow and a quiz. Including a video was a step up from the eProtect course, as it diversifies the course material. However, the course was still not very interactive and was primarily focused on training volunteers. Previous OpenWHO courses have had more content and variety; this style of class was just not my favorite. The material is clear enough to understand without an extensive science background.
