Foundations of Computing: Mathematics and Logic

Computers and software work because of mathematics. In this course, Foundations of Computing: Mathematics and Logic, you’ll learn about the mathematical concepts that underpin your code. First, you’ll explore logic and Boolean algebra and learn how number bases allow numbers to be represented. Next, you’ll discover how set theory, graph theory, and combinatorics work to allow analysis of data structures. Finally, you’ll learn how to prove things, such as proving that a possible algorithm will, in principle, actually work. When you’re finished with this course, you’ll have the skills and knowledge of mathematics and logic needed to understand the mathematical basis of your software.
