“Media criticism” is an important branch of modern mass
communication. In a word, it, which belongs to the field of application
communication studies, is to criticize media. With the technology
advancing, the media industry developing and “social media” arriving,
the media is playing a more and more important role in the modern society.
To guarantee the positive development of the media itself, the media
itself need to be restricted so as to make clear its boundary. Therefore,
how to carry out the reflective judgment on the media and information is
the main problem of media criticism which still remains to be solved.
Media criticism refers to reflective judgment, which bases on the
criticism of the value standpoint, the dissemination of the concept and
the theory background. Media criticism is the observation, analysis,
evaluation, which is concluded from the humanities and social science
fundamental research method, to the political and economy mechanism of
media, mass communication media agencies and media practitioners, the
basic form, media products, media text and the content, the audience. In
short, media criticism is a research which base on the critical value
standpoint in the media activities, media products and the concept of
communication. A clear value standpoint and critical reflective is the
essence of media criticism.
