Ditch the manual for a better way to learn how to use your laser!
Trevor started using a CO2 laser in 2012 and has since taken his creativity and passion and put it into creating unique and inspiring creations with his machine. Through Instagram and YouTube, he continues to come up with new tutorials and projects to show that lasers aren't just for engraving trophies and mugs. Having created multiple online courses for CAD software and teaching college classes, he brings teaching and knowledge expertise into the world of laser machining.
Using your machine, you'll learn how to get started with topics that are similar for all laser brands. Every machine is different and has it's own set-up, machining requirements, and software. Using an Epilog laser, he will show you how he goes through the process, the settings he works with, and what he does to get the best results as well as maintaining the equipment. This course isn't meant to focus on one specific brand, but rather take the information being shown and explain how it can be used with different machines.
Materials needed:
- Laser machine with exhaust and air assist equipment
- A computer with vector software and necessary laser software if applicable
- Material such as acrylic or wood up to ¼” thick
After taking this course, students will gain the following skills:
- Be able to make laser engraved and laser cut projects to start their business
- Understand how to clean and maintain their machine
- How to operate their machine efficiently
- Have one from scratch design project at the end
This course is intended for everyone, even people that are interested in lasers but may not own one just yet. Many schools, libraries, and maker spaces have lasers available and this course will help you make the most out of that opportunity. Don't have a laser available but still want to create items? Trevor will be happy to work with you until you can get your own machine.
At the end of the course, students will have multiple small finished projects that they can display and use. Students are encouraged to complete the projects as they walk through this course and share their finished items at the end. They can also share them on Instagram using the hashtag "#makerexperimentskillshare".
