Engineering Education is the process of training engineers for the purposes of initiating, facilitating and implementing the technological development in the society. Engineers are to solve societal problems in a sustainable way using appropriate engineering tools to proffer the required solutions. The quality engineering education is not only challenging but also of paramount importance in today’s globalized world. Developments in communications, travel and trade over recent decades have produced a global network of ideas, institutions, and economies. Engineering practice and its related technologies have become global in scope and scale. To be effective, today’s engineering graduate must not only be grounded in scientific and mathematical fundamentals, engineering principles and design, but must also have a global outlook and the broader skills to work in society in both home country and internationally. Engineering education is thus challenged to prepare a technically competent graduate, as it has done traditionally, and to add several dimensions of broadening – all within a program of reasonable length. Outcome Based Education (OBE) is penetrating the Engineering Education System at an increasing pace. Today, every activity, every course, is measured by the outcomes being addressed. Application of TQM, Re-engineering and Benchmarking strategies has shown remarkable improvement in business and industry. Technical education system must employ some of the principles involved so as to get similar advantages in this sector also. The quality issues of technical education system are required to be identified and strategies for application of principles of TQM , Re-engineering and Benchmarking be considered. This course is meant to senior teachers who are working in Polytechnic and Engineering colleges who are involved in quality assurance and accreditation process. This course may also be offered in Post graduate studies in Engineering and Technology. Total Study time expected is 40 hours and 3 credits course.
