Dartmouth Health Continuing Education for Professionals Home, D-H Wellbeing Series - Medicine Grand Rounds - Lifestyle Medicine - Whole Health and the Transformation of American Medicine, 11/8/2019 8:00:00 AM - 11/8/2022 9:00:00 AM, Dr. Phillips describes the rapidly evolving discipline of Lifestyle Medicine which addresses root cause behaviors of death, disease and health care costs. Citing evidence that modifiable behaviors are the primary causes of early death and chronic disease, he advocates for medical professionals to not only be trained to adopt a Whole Health approach for their patients, but to also personally embrace this approach to improve their own health and well-being. Dr. Phillips suggests that healthcare spending be re-directed towards preventive care, that providers adopt a patient driven agenda and integrate lifestyle recommendations throughout treatment plans, and that patients receive tools to help them succeed in managing their wellness outside the healthcare setting.
