The Chinese Language and Literature major at Yunnan Normal University's School of Arts is a national first - class program. The course Modern Chinese is one of the core courses that the university and the college have supported for many years. In 2021, Modern Chinese (1) was recognized as a second batch provincial - level first-class online and offline blended undergraduate course in Yunnan Province. In 2022, Modern Chinese (1) became a core course construction project of the advantageous undergraduate program at Yunnan Normal University and a project for the integration of ideological and political education in the curriculum. The course Modern Chinese has been recognized by Yunnan Normal University as a first-class B- level undergraduate course in the country. The Modern Chinese course was rated as an excellent course for the implementation of process evaluation in course learning at Yunnan Normal University.
In 1999, Professor Luo Xiaosuo published the textbook Introduction to Modern Chinese. After its publication, this book caused a significant response in the academic community, being rated as a "textbook for university reform in the 21st century" and awarded the second prize for national-level excellent teaching achievements in 2001. In 2009, it was recognized as a quality course of Yunnan Normal University. In 2011, Zhou Yun, Deng Yao, and Zhou Chunlin edited the Yunnan Province's 12th Five-Year Plan textbook Introduction to Modern Chinese (Peking University Press, 2011 edition) , which won the provincial - level quality textbook award in 2012. In 2020, Modern Chinese was approved for the construction of a university-level online open course. In 2021, the project for the construction of the first-class undergraduate course Modern Chinese (1) in a blended online and offline format was completed at the university level.
