Overview
Take a guided tour of Amory Lovins' extremely energy efficient home and passive-solar banana farm in Snowmass, Colorado in this 56-minute video from Stanford University. Lovins, a Lecturer in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford and Co-founder and Chairman Emeritus of Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), demonstrates practical applications of integrative design and whole systems thinking. The tour covers multiple aspects of extreme energy efficiency including heating and insulation systems, utility room drying systems, energy storage and batteries, innovative water heating solutions, pipe efficiency techniques, kitchen design, the interior jungle (banana farm), bathroom features, library, and the principles of integrative design. Recorded in September 2021, this video is part of Stanford's Extreme Energy Efficiency course, which aims to spread whole systems thinking for achieving greater energy and resource efficiency across all economic sectors.
