This course explores the Freedom Struggle in India, with a focus on the entry and rule of the Portuguese, French, British and other empires. It covers the battles and treaties, along with the British’s socioeconomic, cultural and educational policies, deindustrialization, famines, land revenue systems, economic drain of wealth, and the Indian response to colonization. The course also covers the rise of politics and nationalism, the 1857 Revolt, three stages of colonization, Indian National Congress, Moderates/Extremists, and Revolutionary Phase-I/II. It goes into detail on Gandhi’s South African and Indian struggles, Montford Reforms, Home Rule Movement, Khilafat Movement, Non Cooperation, Rowlett and Jallian Wala Bagh Massacre, Swarajist Movement, Nehru Report, the Simon Commission, Jinnah's 14 Points, Civil Disobedience and Quit India Movements, Cabinet Mission, and Wavell Plan, Rajagopalachari Formula, Desai-Liaquat Pact, Partition, Post Independence: problems and policies, Mountbatten Plan, and Independence Act.
