Industrial Microbiology

As the name says this course was about Industrial Microbiology which microbial sciences to form industrial products in large quantities, learnt about enzyme immobilization by physical method in which enzyme is attached to an inert , organic or inorganic materials which increases its resistance to various environmental changes such as ph or temperature.

Then the study of enzyme immobilization physical mode of interaction in detail, than enzyme immobilization by ionic bonding which is a reversible mode of immobilization of proteins which involves ionic interaction between the enzyme and the support which is generally charged, then enzyme entrapment in which catalyst is trapped within a material , then enzyme immobilization by covalent binding, packed bed and fluidised bed bioreactor , tower bioreactor, plug flow bioreactors, cross linking of enzymes, Air lift bioreactor, preparation of batch culture, continues culture,fed batch fermentation and growth curve of bacteria.

This course is very useful for both for Grneral microbiology as well as Applied microbiology. They clearly explains about absorption and the microbes involed in industrial purpose. The different types of bioreactors such as airlift bioreactor, cylindro conical bioreactor and the different reactions that are taking place in the reactors. The substance such as substrate and inoculum that should be added at different times and in different proportion for the different types of bioreactors. The name bioreactor is given because the microbes that are processing the inoculum to give the desired product that can be further stored for future purpose. For example - Wine, Yogurt. In today's world, industries are gaining importance as the population as well as the food varieties increases. By studying this course you will gain more knowledge about the microbes which are beneficial and about the bioreactors.
