This course in Physical Anthropology aims to provide an understanding of biological and cultural factors in human evolution, theories of organic evolution, characteristics of primates, primate behavior, comparative anatomy of man and apes, and human genetics. Students will learn about Plio-pleistocene hominids, human genetics methods, Mendelian genetics in humans, genetic polymorphism, genetic aberrations, race and racism, ecological anthropology, epidemiological anthropology, human growth and development, and demographic theories. The course covers various topics such as Dollo’s rule, Cope’s rule, Gause’s rule, primate adaptations, Neanderthal man, genetic counseling, gene therapy, human DNA profiling, and human genome study. The teaching method includes lectures, discussions, and possibly practical exercises. This course is intended for individuals interested in anthropology, human evolution, genetics, and related fields.
