For a Limited Time, Coursera Offers Free Certificates for 115 Courses. Here is the Full List.

Coursera Free Certificates — Limited Time

Update July  26th: Coursera has extended the offer till the end of 2020

At the end of March, the world’s largest MOOC provider Coursera announced that they are offering 100 free online courses in response to Covid-19 till the end of May. But recently Coursera expanded both the number of courses as well as the length of the offer till the end of July. The new courses added are from Coursera’s Latin American university partners.

Now this has further been extended till the end of this year.

As we noted, the coronavirus pandemic has increased interest in online education and bought MOOCs back in the spotlight. Class Central itself has seen a huge surge in traffic.

The ongoing situation has also driven MOOC providers to launch a number of initiatives. For learners, this means new opportunities. We are keeping track of these in three lists that we’re continuously updating:

Now, out of the ~140 courses announced by Coursera, many were already free but didn’t offer a certificate. I discovered using Class Central data that 115 previously had paid certificates, but these are now free. The entire list (subject to change without notice) can be found below.

In fact, I had previously discovered 1400+ courses that are completely free on Coursera. Many have certificates that you need to pay for, but access to all the course material, including graded assignments, is free. If you’re new to online education, have a look at our suggestions on how to learn online effectively.

Also, I asked Coursera why some people weren’t seeing the discount. After clicking on Go To Class on Class Central, when you arrive to the course page on Coursera, wait for the promotional banner to appear at the top, and only then click on Enroll for Free. If you don’t see the banner, please refresh. The gif below shows the steps to follow:

If you were already auditing a course listed here and would like to re-enroll to get the free certificate, here’s how: 1. Log into Coursera. 2. Go to My Courses. 3. Click on the three-dots icon on the top-right of the course card. 4. Click on Unenroll. Then, follow the steps in the gif above to re-enroll with a free certificate.

None of the courses belong to a Coursera Specialization. This offer is only valid until the end of  2020. Once you checkout, you will have 180 days to earn a certificate.

These courses come from ~50 universities including Penn, Georgia Tech, Johns Hopkins, Caltech, Duke, and Imperial College London. Courses from companies like Google and Amazon are also included.

Eight courses from Class Central’s best online courses of all time ranking are also part of this list. These are the first eight courses in the list below.

Looks like only one of the courses can be taken (with certificate) for free.

Coursera Together: enroll today and get this course for free.
Your discount will be applied automatically at checkout. Offer is subject to change and valid through 5/31/20.

Discount applied at checkout. One-time use only. Offer valid until 5/31/2020, while supplies last.

At least this is how I interpret the “one-time use only”.

Are these so called free classes accredited. How will it benefit you within the workforce.Does employers recognize the courses from this institution ?.Can I take several classes online at one time for FREE.I do not want to waste my money as I have done before.I can’t afford to lose.

            @ Tony
            1. No, they are not accredited as they are not provided by an accredited institution. They are also not “so-called” as you put it, since they are classes and they are free, so maybe tone down the entitled grabby baby routine.
            2. It will benefit in that you can put it on your resume.
            3. Depends on the employer.
            4. Yes, of course.

I’m sure you will be a ray of light in whatever workplace you wind up. I suggest you work on some soft skills too, bro.

Some of these courses are free certificates and some are not. I also tried the De-Mystifying Mindfulness course and it is making me pay. New Business Models of Society, Fashion as Design, & Computer Vision Basics is the same. Some of these courses are in fact free like Science of Success – the discount thing shows up and takes care of it. However, many are not. I hope this doesn’t come off the wrong way, but you need to revise your list as it is inaccurate.

Go to your courses, press the three dot against your “Data Science Maths Skills” course and un-enroll. Your progress would have been saved. Now, again go to the course page and tap “Enroll for free”. This time click the option with “Certificate included”(A message would come at the bottom written “The discount will be applied at the checkout”). You’ll now reach to the checkout page with applied discount showing 0 payable amount. Click pay now and enjoy the course.

Hi. Is this offer not longer available? I tried to “enroll with certificate” but there is no longer the option to take it for free with certificate, only to audit for free. I read in the intro of this article that the free enroll period was extended until the end of July. Did I understand that wrong? I don’t get any discount in the checkout page

I see a few repeat questions that I cannot find a posted answer to, so I’ll repeat them again.

1: If you sign up for a course and cannot complete it by the end of May, do you still get the free offer? Some of these courses say they are 12 weeks long which extends past that deadline.

2: Do you have lifetime access to material once you enroll, the same as on Udemy?

Would appreciate a timely response. Thank you.

    hi Shah,
i just enrolled a free course today, (“Managing the Company of the Future”) and at the first stage itself, they asked for money, and in the final window, they showed total amount to pay 0/- by applying the discount automatically. Just now i tried to enroll another course which is written “Try for Free: Enroll to start your 7-day full access free trial” (course name: “Google IT Automation with Python Professional Certificate”) , it is showing like “₹3,617 per month to continue learning after trial ends.
Go as fast as you can – the faster you go, the more you save.”

So after completing 7 day free trial, do i have to paythe said amount to continue the rest of my course? please make me clear.

The second course you signed up is not part of this promotion and you will have to pay to continue.

Only the courses in the above list offer a free certificate. They rest of the courses might be free to audit. Here is to signup for audit mode (if the option exists): https://www.classcentral.com/report/coursera-signup-for-free/

They still ask at the enrol to either pay xx$ dollar for certificate or free just audit option with no certificate, When reading i understand that the certificate you will get for free for the certain amount of courses offered to help keep people busy and to develop skill sets and to better fall back and help build a professional career and elevate the already collapsing economy.
So you can enrol for free, do the courses for free via audit, but at the end to show you passed and are competent you still have to pay x amount to receive the certificate, i am not clear on how its free tho.
Even tho for some i do not mind paying the x amount to receive the certificate to publish and add to CV for better chances of landing dream jobs or getting your foot in the door at companies.
Could someone please clarify my misty thoughts.

    Hi Guys,

Just now I have enrolled for 4 course absolutely free of cost.

Here I will explain how I have done it. May be it will help you too.

    1. I have registered my name, email ID and password.

    2. Selected the required course link out of 101 courses. ( We can select 1 course at time)

    3. You will see new window or new page where course name will be appeared. Below that in white box you will see Enroll for free and start date….
You need to click on that.

    4. You will see new page where 2 options will be there.
    a) purchase course it will show you fees.
    b) Audit only.

You will see option a) have already blue dot so keep that as it is and click on continue button below the Audit only.

    5. You will see new page. Showing

    Complete you purchase.

    Course certificate : 2140/- INR
    Discount : – 2140/- INR
    Total : 0/- INR

Click on Pay now button at bottom in blue tab.

You will get confirmation email as well as further instruction.

Again if you want to take another course then come back to the main page and select the course via link and do the same process again.

In this whole process please do not download Coursera mobile App or else you will not get this for free.

I have done all this above process on my android phone only.

After all this you can download mobile App and use your registered email I’d and password for log in.

You App will show all the selected courses via browser. And you can start your course.

Hope all this information will helpful. I have tried my best to explain to those who are not able to do it for free.

I am trying to take “Tricky American English Pronunciation” and just finished week 1 course material. Provided that I had proceeded the “payment” of USD$49 for the course, after finishing week 1 course material, it requested me to pay USD$79 for upgrading the course for submitting my homework & quiz for week 1 as well as for earning certificate.

If I am not going to pay such USD$79, meaning I will not be able to submit all homework & quiz for the course. Will I still be able to get a certificate?

Sir, I’m glad that I’ve come across your post. I was able to enroll in 3 courses and was able to purchase the courses (with free certificate for each) at zero cost. For those wondering how that’s possible, just click the course listed by Mr Shah above. You will then be directed to a site (not Coursera yet). Then, click GO TO CLASS (far-right of the screen). You are then directed to Coursera, just scroll up and down until on top of the page, you’ll see a dialogue box telling you that you can take the course for free. Click enroll, choose the one with $ payment. At check-out, automatically the course fee goes to zero.

Would you be explain in more detail how you were able to find out these courses offer free certificates? Do they have different http address or must be generated from a promo? Just really curious how you went through all that.

Further, now I see that the deadline is July 31. I was wondering if you are going to update if more courses will be offered that offer certificates and if it will be updated in this blog or somewhere else.

    Thank you!

Yes, the plan is to update the course list soon. I did a quick check and found there were some new courses (and maybe some courses that were removed).

You can follow the links in the Coursera announcement post to see all the courses. Its a bit cubersome because they are spread across different pages/categories. We just compiled them into a single page. And yes there is a promo based on the category. We automatically add them to our Course pages.

Thank you so much. Looks like Coursera’s offer has extended to July but does that mean we will have to complete within 180 days if we purchased for free certificate in May? Or do we simply unenroll and enroll?

It’s not a huge deal but just wanted to see what my options are so I can prioritized.

        Thanks for all you do!

The coursera banner says “Discount applied at checkout. One-time use only. Offer valid until 7/31/2020, while supplies last”.

Any idea what “while supplies last” means? Is it a per course enrollment limit or for the entire suite of free courses?

    Hi Dhawal,

Thanks for compiling such a wonderful list for all of us.

Just wanna ask a quick one.

It was stated that there will be 180 days to earn the certificate upon checkout, but once I earned it, will I get lifetime access to the content?

    Cheers.

I think you can still access the content as long as it’s hosted on Coursera, but will loose access to graded assignments.

Thanks for the list. I tried one course so far, and it worked. I was able to take the course WITH certificate for free. I see from some of the other comments people have had trouble. You MUST make sure the promotion banner appears on the course page, or no discount will be applied during checkout. If you don’t see the promotional banner, try refreshing the page, or visit the page using the links provided on this site (as the url has additional parameters appended which seem to help trigger the banner).

I just unenrolled and reenrolled my course (different from yours) and my progress was preserved. I should say when I clicked on unenroll, a prompt came up telling me my progress will be preserved and asking for confirmation, so if you click on unenroll and no such prompt comes up, be careful.

I am not sure if my problem is the same as anyone’s, but I enrolled last month in Think Again and I have just completed it. However, the certificate is not free. I am pretty sure I selected the wrong option of “Free course” as opposed to “purchase course” when enrolling.

I am doing another course which I have not finished and I am sure I made the same mistake with this one too, but I was able to un-enrol/re-enrol and do it properly this time. Whether it will result in a free cert is still to be seen. Unfortunately I can’t even un-enrol/re-enrol Think Again since I have completed the course. Is there a way to make the cert for Think Again free now?

I am currently enrolled into two courses from Coursera from this list and was interested in joining a third one from this list as well (medical neuroscience). However, it is not allowing me to enroll for free like it did with my other two courses. I have also followed the instructions in waiting for a banner to show up, have refreshed my browser and have even tried clearing out my cookies…no luck. Just like the comment above mine, I am also experiencing the same issue.

    Hi,

“ If you were already auditing a course listed here and would like to re-enroll to get the free certificate, here’s how: 1. Log into Coursera. 2. Go to My Courses. 3. Click on the three-dots icon on the top-right of the course card. 4. Click on Unenroll. Then, follow the steps in the gif above to re-enroll with a free certificate.”

I have finished the course (for free) so there is no option to “re enroll” it.

Can you advise how to get the free certification?

    Thanks

To avail the courser together offer, follow these steps:

Firstly it would be better if you use the website (desktop version) rather than the mobile app.
    – Go to the course through Class Central link (Use the Go to Class button).
    – Wait till the page loads completely and the promotion banner appears (Refresh if it doesn’t or try again later).
    – Click on the Enroll for free button, you’ll see the a page which can have options (If it is available for free without certificate or can be audited).
    – Choose the paid option which has the amount stated with a strikethrough. It should state that ‘the promotion will be applied at checkout’. Then click Continue.
    – You’ll be redirected to the cart, make sure it shows Total amount: 0.
You may be given the option to simply Go to Course or you will have to do the entire payment procedure of amount = 0 (like filling in the card details and everything).
    – Congratulations, you’ve successfully enrolled to the full course and will be getting a certificate on completion at no cost.
You have 180 days after enrolling into a course to finish it.

Note: You will not see this course in your purchases but you can see it under ‘My Courses’ section.
Note: Mostly you won’t be able to unenroll form a course if you have used the offer.
Note: You can enroll in as many courses as you want. But the offer is applicable only once per course per account.

If by mistake you’ve actually paid for a course while trying to avail the offer, you can definitely ask for a refund. Check this to know more about refunds: https://learner.coursera.help/hc/en-us/articles/208280266#collapsecc_refund_policies

If you are one of those who have JUST RECENTLY audited a course or enrolled for free where you won’t get a certificate, you can unenroll from the course and re-enroll using the promotion offer so that you can get a certificate as well.
Note: I’m not sure if you’ll retain your progress or not and that’s the reason I mentioned JUST RECENTLY. Mostly you would retain, it’s just that I’m not totally sure.

I’m just a student and I had similar doubts so I wrote this up to clarify them for me as well as for all of you. I hope I was able to help solve the major queries that we had.

I actually wanted to know how can I reset my deadlines to sooner or later, I would like if someone could help me with this. Thanks in advance!

    Best regards,
    Sushmita
