30+ New Coursera Specializations Will Give Your Skills a Massive Boost

30+ New Specializations Put MOOCs at Forefront of Skilling Up. There’s Never Been a Better Time to Improve Your Skills.

Coursera first announced specializations in January 2014 as a “new type of program that allows students to develop mastery in a specific subject.” These specializations are a sequence of courses that culminate into a capstone project at the end.

There were a total of ten specializations announced at launch. Over time the number of specializations rose to 30; however, Coursera have just doubled the number of their specializations in one swoop. These newly-announced specializations mostly belong to the fields of Computer Science, Data Science, and Business.

Last month we wrote about two major announcements from Coursera, both of which led up to this news. The first one was the launch of the Global Skills Initiative, which aims to bring universities and companies together. Coursera followed that up by revealing their Series C round of $60million, which they will spend on creating new specializations.

The options for people worldwide to upskill, learn relevant job skills, and demonstrate that learning with a credential — such as a specialization — are increasing rapidly. Udacity also announced that they will increase the number of Nanodegrees to more than 30 (up from eight) by the end of 2016.

We have created a centralized place to discover these credentials and read reviews of them, so that you can decide if a credential is right for you. You can find more than 70+ such credentials on Class Central’s credentials page.
