This is a very good beginner's course in design. The material is appropriate for a first-timer. The main drawback arose from few of the lecturers not being comfortable with the English language. The first few lecturers were reading from a script making it a little impersonal. I realize MOOCs are quite impersonal by nature, but I still want to think the lecturer is talking directly to me.
In addition, I don't think the design of the background for lectures allowed concentration on what was being said. It consisted of layers of huge white cubes that would show different colors depending on the light sources around them. In a sense it was artistic and fitting for a course on design, but I found it distracting and slightly claustrophobic.
If you ask questions on their discussion board however, do not expect them to be answered. Questions never seem to be answered, at least as far as I could see on the most recent pages. As I hardly ever refer to discussion boards, this was not a drawback for me moving through the course.
On the other hand, the lecture content was very good and the extra-reading appropriate for anyone wishing to read further into the topic. Most of the lecturers are fluent English speakers later in the course making it easier to follow than the start. Each lecturer teaches an aspect in design they specialize in. I found this a good course as a beginner.
