Presentation skills: Public Speaking Project

Tomsk State University via Coursera

This course may be unavailable.

Overview

Everything comes together in the Capstone: story, slides and delivery. You will draft a complete script of your presentation. With the advice of your peer readers, you will revise, rewrite, and complete it. Then the same thing will happen with your slides. And finally you will deliver it to a real audience recording it on camera and get valuable feedback from your peers.

We highly suggest not to do a «fake project», but choose a topic that matters to you, so in the end you will have a polished presentation of something that is important to you. Whether it is an idea, a business project, a product or some other complicated matter.

If you are to revise some other work, please, write with an intention to help. Say what a peer should stop or start doing, add or remove from their script or slides.

  • Firas

Firas completed this course, spending 5 hours a week on it and found the course difficulty to be medium.

This course is suitable for those who have a fear of speaking in front of the audience. I have learned in compliance with some other courses from this speciaization (Speechwriting and Storytelling and Designing Presentation Slides) that you can deal with almost any trouble that occurs when you deliver your speech. That's why I love this course!

It was definitely not a piece of cake. I hope I will eventually show my skills not online but in real life.
    1) good choice of material
    2) interesting ideas for tasks
but I would recommend those who just started to finish first at least the course Effective presentation delivery.
All in all, it was a nice experience! Thanks to the creators for this good idea!

Not bad. I had some problem with understanding the tasks sometimes but guys in the forum helped me figure out. Oc ourse, it's better to take the courses from the whole specialization. I like the idea of sharing my projects with everyone. Thanks to the creators!

didn't add any extra value to me as i have all the basic information already and you are forcing me to write 100 words which is not convenient
  • Anonymous

Anonymous is taking this course right now.

There are no material provided or skills to learn as promised in the very beginning of the course.
It mainly depends on the peers review and that is not enough because we don't already know the main skills that we have to apply on our Power Point presentation

I was afraid I wouldn't be able to afford spending a lot of time on this project because it demands recording videos, etc. but it's okay because it absorbed me and I got hooked on it quickly. Nice course for those who seek professionalism.

It's the most serious course in the series Presentation Skills. I find it quite challenging but it motivates me at the same time. I would recommend it to those who have enough time and are ready to do the tasks in real life.

I have nothing but good things to say about my experience with Coursera. I have loved the learning I have been able to do and look forward to taking many more classes with them. I have always been interested in Presentation Skills: Public Speaking Project and Coursera has given me the chance to take the classes that really interest me. I don't understand the reviews with low ratings. I have never had any problems with them.

I was expecting something more in-depth as far as upskilling. This course is for someone who has little to no experience in public speaking. Not for someone looking for a refresher or in need of tips of tricks as the class is completely self-governed and peer reviewed. There will be no contact with a professor.

The course content is really good. The activities and weekely task are good. It is also great that we can review peer assignments which helps us to get more info and thoughts of others.

The presentation of the review comments can be improved.

Extremely informative with first-hand transferable skills. Helps push you outside your comfort zone which is necessary for one to succeed either in professional, informal and/or social settings.
