I Don't Own the Data - End User Perceptions of Smart Home Device Data Practices and Risks

This course explores end user perceptions of smart home device data practices and risks. The learning outcomes include understanding users' concerns and behaviors regarding data practices, perceived risks of security and privacy, and actions taken to mitigate those risks. The course covers topics such as smart home devices adoption, security and privacy threats, data collection, sharing, storage, and protective measures. The teaching method involves a semi-structured interview study with smart home users. The intended audience includes policymakers, researchers, and designers aiming to enhance users' risk awareness and security practices in the smart home environment.
