The CompTIA IT Fundamentals course is designed to help anyone who is considering a career in information technology. The course will provide students with basic IT knowledge that prepares them to pass the CompTIA IT Fundamentals certification exam.

The course introduces students to IT concepts and terminology. The course is structured to follow the five domains that are covered in the corresponding CompTIA exam. These domains include Software, Hardware, Security, Network and Basic IT Literacy. This course will cover the basic hardware components found in a computer, as well as connecting external devices like printers to computers. We cover operating systems: what they are, why you need one and an overview of the different operating systems commonly found today. We will see how to navigate around an operating system, organizing files and navigating the operating system. The course also introduces different types of software applications, such as word processors, spreadsheets and databases. There is a brief introduction to newer technologies, such as virtualization and cloud computing. This course will also look at how you can connect computers together to form both wired and wireless network and security basics. Finally, the course covers the important topics of creating backups and environmental and safety concepts.

What Does this CompTIA IT Fundamentals Course Cover?

The CompTIA IT Fundamentals course is designed to serve as preparation for the certification exam. The course provides students with the prerequisite knowledge that is needed for the A+, Network+ and Security+ certifications, which are required for many jobs in the IT industry.

This course is an introduction to IT terminology, concepts, and basics of computing. It follows the five objectives that are covered in the IT Fundamentals certification exam (FC0-U61). Those five domains are:

  • Hardware
  • Software
  • Network
  • Security
  • IT Literacy

Within those five domains, students will learn what the basic hardware components are, the uses of various operating systems, how to navigate different operating systems, and multiple software applications.

Additionally, there will be a brief overview of new technologies, like cloud computing and virtualization. Very basic networking will also be covered, including how to connect wired and wireless computers together. Lastly, the course will cover fundamental topics related to security.

Upon completion of the IT Fundamentals training course, students will have clocked 8 hours and 53 minutes, earning 11 CEU/CPE and a Certificate of Completion.

The IT Fundamentals certification exam has 75 multiple choice questions, for which students will have one hour to complete. There are no prerequisites or previous work experience required to take the exam. Test-takers must score at least 650 out of 900 to pass.
