Please join Office of Women in Medicine & Science for a live in person event. This event will take place live, in person at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University Overview This session will help participants to develop and strengthen their skills in transforming interpersonal conflict. Participants will assess their own personal conflict style and learn tactics that will help them to move through conflict situations. Barriers to effective conflict management will be identified, as well as strategies for moving through these barriers. Practice in techniques like active listening and open-ended questions will increase skills in these areas.

Syllabus

After participating in this event, learners should be better able to: 

1. Learn five ways to transform conflict in order to preserve relationships.

2. Identify barriers to effective conflict management and strategies for overcoming these barriers.

3. Assess individual conflict styles (competing, collaborating, accommodating, avoiding or compromising) and describe the impact on communication. 

4. Practice communication techniques such as active listening, open-ended questions, summarizing and reframing. 

5. Determine appropriate intervention strategies for typical conflicts. 

6. Apply effective strategies that will allow for preservation of relationships.
