Program Release: June 20, 2021 Expiration Date: May 29, 2023 Estimated time to complete: 60 Minutes There are no prerequisites for participation Overview This lecture aims to increase provider awareness on the impact of fears, bias and discrimination when working with patient substance use disorder or those experiencing an overdose. It highlights the importance of the language we use as providers treating patients with substance use disorders and the need for using person-centered language in healthcare settings. It a covers the role of peer recovery specialists in patients’ journey to recovery and how providers can pitch the idea of connecting patients with peer recovery specialists and other treatment resources. Syllabus

After participating in this activity, the learner should be better able to recognize: 

  1. The impact of fears, bias, and discrimination when working with patients with substance use disorders and/or those experiencing overdose
  2. The impact of person-centered language in healthcare settings
  3. The meaning of recovery capital and the roles of a peer recovery specialist
  4. How resources, treatment and peer recovery specialists can be offered to patients

METHOD OF PARTICIPATION AND HOW TO RECEIVE CME CREDIT

  • Complete the quiz with a passing score of 75% or higher, as well as the activity evaluation. You will then have immediate access to claiming credit and obtaining your certificate.
