This is an elementary-level Korean language course, consisting of 5 lessons with 4 units, and covers 4 skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The main topics include basic expressions used in everyday life, such as greetings, introducing yourself, talking about your family and a daily life and so on. Each lesson covers dialogues, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, quizzes and role-plays.
After completing this course, you will be able to
1. read and write Korean alphabet.
2. communicate in Korean with basic expressions.
3. learn basic knowledge on Korean culture.

- The Korean Alphabet
- In this module, you will learn the Korean alphabet or Korean writing system called 'Hangeul'. After completing the lessons, you will be able to understand the principles how each letter was invented. Also, you will be able to read and write Hangeul.
- Greetings and Introducing
- In this module, you will learn how to greet, ask someone's nationalities / jobs and answer those questions in Korean. After completing the lessons, you will be able to introduce yourself, greet a person and talk about someone's nationalities and occupations.
- Family
- In this module, you will learn the expressions about family. After completing the lessons, you will be able to talk about the family members and learn how to count numbers.
- Time and Date
- In this module, you will learn about time and date in Korean. And you will also say the days of the week as well. After completing the lessons, you will be able to ask and repond time & date using Korean numbers.
- Daily Life
- In this module, you will learn various Korean vocabulary regarding your daily lives. After completing the lessons, you will be able to utilize informal sentence endings, ask and answer about your everyday life.

I really liked this course. It helped me with the difficulties I had with some subjects like time and date.

I found that the course started off at a decent pace, and things were explained nicely, with plenty of use of the International Phonetic Alphabet. However, as it went on, the IPA was not being used, and you were only told that 'even the Koreans find these ones confusing' came long after the confusion had arisen. The pace was too fast and it was difficult to learn the whole alphabet in one chunk - I would have preferred to learn it more slowly, but remember more.

This was the first MOOC I have taken and I enjoyed it. I was glad to see that there was a Korean course offered in a classroom setting. The Korean alphabet was taught along with other topics like introductions and date and time. I wanted to learn Korean because I watch Korean movies, listen to Korean music, and I have plans to visit Korea too.
I already took both First Step Korean and Learn to Speak Korean 1. This course will definitely prepare you for the next course, Learn to Speak Korean 1. -

This has been really helpful since quizzes and assessments were presented, some questions were also in hangul so you can really practice what you've learned. I spend 4 consecutive days to finish this course. About 2 to four hours per day. The videos were great and can be really understood. Just a question, did you get a certificate at the end and how? -
I took this course last May, really enjoyed the whole learning process. The course is well developed, substantial, really easy to follow. Moreover, the professior is beautifully articulate and expressive that helped to make my first step in Korean easily and smoothly. I highly recommend this course to everyone who is interested in Korean!

Ekta SinhaThis is a great course for beginners looking to learn Korean. While it is not perfect, taking notes during the lectures, revising them and putting what you learned into conversationcan really make learning through this course easier.
You can download Google's Korean keyboard onto your smartphone and use apps like HelloTalk to practice conversing in Korean.
I thought the pace of the course was alright. There is no one sure shot way to learn a language and every person has a different method of learning. This course provides the right learning materials and guidance to help you learn but ultimately, it is up to you to do it. Remember, don't give up. Good luck! -
I've completed this course within 2 weeks of time. I found the level of difficulty of this course was easy.
Throughout taking this course I didn't faced any difficulty because everything was easy to understand and all the explanation were understandable. For those who don't have any basic Korean, do not too worry because in this course it taught from the very basic one for the beginner. For example, learning to recognize the Korean alphabet, exposed with few vocabulary, how to compute a sentence, speak Korean from basic words and etc. So overall, throughout this course I really enjoyed learning and doing all the assignments as well as the quizzes. -

This course helped me really understand and explained what I did not initially understand. For those who learn or want to learn Korean, I suggest this to be extremely helpful. It was very descriptive, fun and learned quite quickly. This course had excellent examples and lessons. I've completed the whole course in a creative way and recommend that anyone who wants to learn a new language take this course!

It is a good Korean language online course. The teacher's teaching style is very clear and understandable. There are also pdf file to self reading. but the thing is I can't get into cousera. Maybe I am the only one or does others acc can access or not. please fix it as soon as possible. I have already in week 3 and I can't access my account. To conclude, I recommend this online course genuinely.
