Filled with animations, application questions, and exercises, this course makes learning easy and fun!
What is Learning?
In this module, we'll use metaphor and analogy to help you more easily understand key ideas about how your brain works. You will discover two modes of thinking—you can use these modes in different ways to improve your learning. We will also show you a powerful tool for tackling procrastination, give you some great memory tips, and point out why "sleeping on it" can be a good idea!
Tips to Build Your Memory
In this module, we explore the brain’s process for storing information in long-term memory in an easy to understand metaphor involving a school bag, a locker and an octopus. Then, we will talk about some of the best ways to access your brain’s most powerful long-term memory systems, like metaphor, recall, memory palace and rhyming.
Brain Links and Study Tips
In this module, we’re going to talk more about important ideas and techniques that will enhance your ability to learn. You’ll also discover how to avoid “information overload,” and how to recognize your own strengths. Fighter pilots and surgeons use checklists to help them with their critical duties—you can use a similar checklist to help you prepare for tests. Ultimately, you will learn more about the joys of living a life filled with learning!

This is a great course. I am a high school teacher and have completed the adult version of this course twice. I am recommending this new course to my students. It is certainly pitched at the right level for high school students and is equally interesting for adults. Well done. From a teaching point of view it certainly provides acknowledgement that many of the "traditional" approaches to teaching are beneficial for growing brain-links. I think it is so exciting to have some knowledge of how our brain works. I think this knowledge can set up our students for a greater sense of control in both their academic and personal lives.
Oh! and by the way, the best part of doing the adult version is receiving the "Cheery Friday Greetings" email. Thank you.

This course was just about perfect, with an upbeat style aimed at young people that can also be enjoyed by adults of any age. Engaging videos, enjoyable exercises, and thoughtful discussion topics were excellently presented. It introduces young people to many helpful learning techniques that will help them throughout their lives.
I did find one aspect of the course quite distracting, and in a course about learning, very irritating. The font used in the video slides used a combination of upper and lower case letters. For example, How to SuCCeeD in SChool Without SPenDing all YouR Time StuDying. It's not quite this distracting because in the videos all the letters are the same height, but because D faces the opposite way to d, my left-handed brain had to take a second look many times. As a child, I had a lot of trouble distinguishing between b and d, 3 and E, and s and z. As for N, which way did it face?
This aspect was a huge disappointment for me. Young readers who might be struggling with reading need the learning materials to be correct.
Because everything else about this course was excellent, I have still rated it 4 stars. I'll probably recommend it to my grandchildren in a few years when they are old enough.
Great Course! Learned a lot from Dr. Barbara Oakley by using new learning technique methods to be more effective while studying for exams or doing an assignment. I would highly recommend this course for all students as it shows detailed information about the procedure of how our brain works and what are some of the best ways to improve our thinking and learn more difficult topics and subject efficiently.
It's really an excellent, informative, and creative course to gain information and learn skills and techniques regarding being an expert to master the tough subjects. Moreover it's a splendid opportunity for educators' to become an expert as well.
Thank you very much everyone. I am a curious person. I like to improve myself. The duration of the lessons was very short. In addition, I could not find the Turkish version of the book described in the lesson. Please have it translated as soon as possible :) These lessons encouraged me to learn English. I hope to meet the scientists in the video as soon as possible. Greetings and love from Ankara,Turkey.
A very well planned course that is simple to follow and easy to understand. The instructors spoke clearly and explained concepts simply. Definitely one of the best courses any student or teacher should take up.
The science of learning, study tips, test prep strategies etc. are presented in a fun and engaging way. I wish the more 'adult' version of this course had this zaniness and simplicity too. Recommended for all ages :)

I really appreciate your choice of topic, teaching methods, course outline, and the rich materials that you have been provided. In my point of view, this course is helpful for everyone, no matter in which stage or phase of learning journey we are, it is going to be helpful for school students, college students, teachers, mentors, and experts. Further, by consideration of lifelong learning, everyone needs some basic skills which were presented in the current course. Therefore, I strongly recommend the course to everyone whom are passion of learning and teaching, particularly pre-primary and primary school teachers, since the can share and practice the tips and skills with their students in their beginning of learning journeys.
This is a great course. I am a graduate from India. I am recommending this course to my friends. It is certainly pitched at the right level for me. Well done and thank you. From a learning point of view, it certainly provides acknowledgement that many of the "traditional" approaches to learn are beneficial for growing brain-links. I think it is so exciting to have some knowledge of how our brain works. I think this knowledge can set up for a greater sense of control in both their academic and personal lives.
A very good course to get to know how human brains work when learning takes place. Moreover major explanations are simplified through colorful diagrams and animated cartoons which make the lessons interesting and living. Besides the teachers are very motivating in their speech which encourages to learn throughout most of the sessions in this course. Different approaches are introduced to enhance the learners on how to learn and memorize things. Quizzes are available to test the learners' understanding about the concepts taught throughout the course. Most importantly, learners are encouraged to contribute their feedback to their peers for their reviews. This create a more conducive learning atmosphere for learning.
Embedding these ideas into institutions that do little to support them currently could be a sea change in the education culture--transforming a conformist and relatively unproductive system into one that supports creativity, multi-field proficiency, better literacy, and the joy of learning.
