Watercolor and the wedge brush: Butterflies & beyond

via Skillshare

Overview

"We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty."          ~Maya Angelou

You will create whimsical, enchanted butterflies by learning various wedge brush strokes, tips and techniques. (A triangle or dagger brush can be used too).

2 handouts are included (located under the Projects and Resources tab)

You will learn a beautiful bonus technique of how to create a gorgeous butterfly using walnut ink. I demonstrate this by using my wedge brush, a calligraphy pen, and a small amount of paint. You can easily substitute the calligraphy pen for a small round brush in this section. The result, I believe, is simply stunning!

You will learn simple enhancements for your butterfly wings.

By the end of class, you will have learned several options for creating these lovely enchanted butterflies that can easily accent any art piece, card, invitation, letter, note, or just about anything else!

I paint the butterflies a little larger than I usually would, but this is so you can clearly see the strokes and details. Feel free to scale them up or down to fit your needs. The possibilities are truly endless!
