Overview

This course exposes students to the theory and functioning of the monetary and financial sectors of the economy. It highlights the organization, structure and role of financial markets and institutions. It also discusses interest rates, monetary management and instruments of monetary control. Financial and banking sector reforms and monetary policy with special reference to India are also covered. The 55 modules of this course will be delivered over a period of 16 weeks roughly covering the working days of a semester. 3 to 4 modules will be uploaded per week. Each module has the following four quadrants: · A video of the lecture of roughly 25 minutes duration delivered by the faculty.· An in depth write up of the same topic· References for further study.· MCQs for self -assessment, exploratory exercises for discussion in blogs and assignments for evaluation by faculty. In order to grasp the concept of the topic accurately,the student is expected to allocate1 ½ hours per topic. They are also expected to submit their assignments to the faculty within the stipulated time mentioned. This MOOC on Money and Financial Markets is an autodidactic module. The students are expected to allot 8 hours approximately per week for studying these topics in details, develop complete understanding of the concepts, participate in discussions with subject expert, study the different references for each of the topics.
