Overview
This course will focus on the history of African people's struggle against European colonial expansion, with a major emphasis on the first World War, Russian Revolution and the anti-colonial struggles that occurred in between the two World Wars. Key topics that will be discussed include the political, economic and societal impacts of colonialism in Africa and the resulting resistance, the lasting impacts of the first World War on the African continent and the events of the Russian Revolution. This course will also offer an in-depth analysis of the events of the anti-colonial movements that occurred in Africa during the inter-war period, looking into their successes, failures and the resulting long-term effects. By the end of this course, students will have a comprehensive understanding of the African people's struggle against colonialism and its lasting legacy.
