Udacity Announces Two New Nanodegrees: Robotics and Digital Marketing

At their second annual Intersect conference, Udacity announced two new Nanodegree programs

Right off the bat at Udacity’s second annual Intersect conference, CEO Vishal Makhijani announced two new programs: the Robotics Nanodegree and the Digital Marketing Nanodegree. The additions of these programs gives Udacity fifteen active Nanodegree programs.

Udacity Robotics Nanodegree Program

Udacity aims to train a new generation of robotics engineers with their new Robotics Nanodegree program. A logical fit given Udacity founder and president Sebastian Thrun’s research passions, students will “master skills with hands-on projects in simulated environments and on real hardware.”

The curriculum is being designed in close partnership with Electric Movement, a cutting-edge robotics engineering company in the Bay Area. Perception, localization, path planning, and control will be covered, as well as computer vision and machine/deep learning techniques for robot perception, as well as the Robot Operating System (ROS) and an introduction to robotic hardware systems.

Hiring partners include Bosch, iRobot, Kuka, Lockheed Martin, MegaBots, Uber ATG, and X (Alphabet’s Moonshot Factory, which Thrun co-founded).

The program consists of two three-month terms with the first cohort of the program starting in May 2017. Udacity estimates students will spend fifteen hours per week on the program. The skill level is mid-to-advanced, with prerequisites posted here. Applications are open with 1500 seats initially available.

At a cost of $1200 per term (and $2400 overall), the Robotics Nanodegree is Udacity’s most expensive Nanodegree program.

Udacity Digital Marketing Nanodegree Program

Designed in collaboration with Facebook, Google, Hootsuite, Hubspot, Mailchimp, and Moz, Udacity really brought in the heavyweights for the Digital Marketing Nanodegree. The program will allow students to “run actual, live campaigns, learn to analyze results, and develop their ability to present actionable insights in meaningful ways.”

Content strategy, social media marketing and advertising, search engine optimization and marketing (SEO & SEM), email marketing, and measurement and optimization with Google Analytics are featured topics. The full curriculum (including project descriptions) is posted on the program webpage.

Inaugural hiring partners include Capital One, Rakuten, and Zalando.

The program, which starts on March 22, 2017, is three months long. Udacity is estimating a time commitment of ten hours per week. No experience or prerequisites are required.

The full program costs $999, though a promotional price of $699 is being offered through the end of March.
