FutureLearn and the University of Michigan (U-M) have recently announced a partnership with three MOOCs to start on October 14 and more to come in the future. This means that U-M now has courses on three large MOOC providers: Coursera, edX, and FutureLearn. U-M already has a range of courses on Coursera and edX. The three FutureLearn courses are not new to online learners, having been previously released on Coursera and/or edX.

This partnership means that one course is now available on all three platforms. Programming for Everybody (Getting Started with Python) was created by Charles Severance (a.k.a. Dr Chuck), who also organises “office hours” gatherings when he travels throughout the world. Coursera offers a 5-course Specialization in Python, while only the first course is available on FutureLearn. Self-paced versions of Programming for Everybody are available in English and Spanish on edX, while Python Data Structures (the second course in Coursera’s Specialization) can also be found on edX.

Programming For Everybody (Getting Started with Python) is one of the most popular MOOCs in the world, with around one million enrollments. It has been in every edition of Class Central’s Top MOOCs of All Time lists with thousands of reviews.

U-M has embraced online courses, with 182 MOOCs listed on Class Central. (Not all are currently available.) They partnered with Coursera in 2012 and edX in 2015. The university also offers Master of Applied Data Science and Master of Public Health degrees in partnership with Coursera. To date, U-M has more than 8 million enrollments from more than 190 countries.
