Introduction to Differential Equations

Santa Fe Institute via Complexity Explorer

Overview

This tutorial contains excerpts from David Feldman's Dynamical Systems course.  Note that Complexity Explorer tutorials are meant to introduce students to various important techniques and to provide illustrations of their application in complex systems.  A given tutorial is not meant to offer complete coverage of its topic or substitute for an entire course on that topic.

This tutorial is designed for beginning math students (those who have completed at least one year of high-school algebra but not calculus).

great course! I like how he makes it simple and direct. The production could improve, but it also makes it more approachable and down to earth.

In terms of accessibility, this course is very accessible. I found it very helpful in preparing me for my differential equations course in the university. However, the course can't stand on its own as a full intro course, since it doesn't delve in methods of solving differential equations analytically at all.
  • Awesome. The understanding of this topic will improve my knowledge of other courses at MIT that requires Differential Equations. I took this course at the university but the professor at that time couldn't explain it as well as it was explained here. Bravo !.

Excellent review! I always look at Prof. Feldman's videos before reading a particular topic in nonlinear dynamics. This is not meant to be a complete class like others have stated, and the instructor makes this point somewhere in the last few viedeos as well.

The course was perfect . Perfect lecture . Perfect presentation. Very useful. I could apply deifferential equations easily in my work and also I understand what I do.

Taking part of this course allowed me to review topics I studied in my advanced calculus courses and, at the same time, to enhance and rearrange in a better way my knowledge of this issue from a more general point of view.

Similar to the 'Functions and Iterations' course that I took prior to this module, another excellent breakdown of the basic mathematics necessary to understand ODE's. To be recommended!

The lectures work great as a refresher for me. The instructor communicates the topics in a practical and sensible way.

Good course! I liked it, I learned a lot and the teacher explains so well that it makes everything look very easy

Dr Feldman is very good at explaining complex information. Yet this introduction is very incomplete. It does not go into the types of differential equations and the production quality is very low. Seriously, writing on paper and taking a video?

es muy buena introducción , pero falta a mi parecer darle continuidad de poco a poco, es muy didáctico y eso es bueno, es muy interesante el punto de vista en como se describe cada tema y concepto.
