Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Autonomous University of Barcelona) via Coursera

Overview

I enrolled in this course to learn something new during the lockdown. I've always been a huge fan of ancient history and old Egypt. But I found this course way too difficult, considering it Is designed for outsiders. Spanish is my first Language and being the course in Spanish I thought it was going to be a good, enriching experience. But the course consists mainly on videos in which professors throw an overwhelming amount of information and share slides. To be fair, the information is at times interesting but mostly it Is boring and not engaging. Then you get to take the first quiz and it IS that hard. They expect you to remember exact dates and trivial data. Not recommending this course at all if you are a beginner in Egyptology.

My worst experience in Coursera. Purely data and data and data and data: tons of pretty useless information about dynasties and genealogies, numbers of tombs or pilons, and not a single chapter dedicated to society or art. Quizzes are designed to test retention of trivial data

in the most outdated pedagogical style., and no feedback is provided for the wrong answers you eventually get. No subtitles in English provided. Just for Spanish-speaking already trained "Egyptologues".
  • Joanna Maryniak completed this course, spending 7 hours a week on it and found the course difficulty to be very hard.

It's a standard university course put on the internet and that is both its greatest strength and failing. It is incredibly informational and factual but boring and demanding in this word's worst meaning. The professors didn't understand at all the ideas and practices behind standard MOOCs but they conveyed an enormous range of information.
