Learn the Art of Inspiration: Strategies to Create Unique Work

via Skillshare

Overview

Hello Everyone!

The number 1 question any working artist receives must be “What are you inspired by?” People are forever curious about how an artist’s mind works and how they dream up their beautiful artworks, myself included. I see many artworks and wonder “how on Earth did they think of that?!” or "how on Earth did they create that?!" Everyday we are bombarded with amazing designs on all surfaces from our clothing to our cereal boxes. There is no right and wrong when it comes to where we acquire our inspiration but there are a few things to think about when using inspiration.

So in this class I’m going to be teaching you the art of inspiration, sharing strategies to create unique works of your own. I will be covering different places you can draw inspiration from, and how to save your inspiration for later. And then I will be taking you step by step as I draw inspiration from photos to create a unique illustration as well as step by step as I use an existing artwork to draw inspiration from and build an entire collection.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?:

This class is geared towards students who are in love with creating artwork and have drawing/painting/creative skills of all levels but might feel a bit lost as to how to go about using photo references and inspiration images to make their own unique designs. Maybe you are on the hunt to discover your unique drawing style or you are just curious as to how I personally gather inspiration to create artwork that is uniquely me, then this class will be for you!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

Supplies you will need to create the class project:

  • Traditional reference materials including vintage books, packaging, clippings from magazines, and/or a computer to view digital references on the web.
  • Plus supplies to create your own unique artwork from the reference you have researched. (This class doesn’t cover drawing techniques but you will get a glimpse into my process of creating artwork using the iPad Pro in Procreate.)

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:

In this class I will be sharing my thought process and techniques for drawing inspiration from existing artwork as well as using photo references to create original works of art in your own unique style.

We will cover the following:

  • Where to rather inspiration.
  • How to properly/ethically use it as inspiration, legally speaking as well.
  • How to draw inspiration from an existing artwork, color palettes etc.
  • How to draw inspiration from reference photos to create unique artworks.

I am so excited to share my tips with you and to see what you all come up with in your class projects!
