via Skillshare

Overview

In this class, you're going to learn how to paint watercolor galaxies that look smooth and rich with depth and vibrancy.

In this first of a three parts watercolor galaxy series, we will focus on the basics for painting stunning galaxies with :

The blending, layering and lifting techniques, to achieve flawless backgrounds.

Various ways to add the stars, to turn these backgrounds into dramatic galaxy paintings.

This class is best suited for beginners and those who, in general, feel overwhelmed by the complexities of watercolor when they start flowing on wet paper or who are not getting the results they're looking for with watercolor backgrounds.

This class will provide an excellent foundation to anyone wanting to paint beautiful watercolor backgrounds and learn the basics of landscape painting.

We will be using basic watercolor supplies that do very well with the use of a lot of water in a painting.

You may refer to the color mixing guide in the Resources section of the class to learn more about color options and color mixing for galaxy painting.

All you will need to complete the exercises and class project are four common colors.

Feel free to add your project and work in progress to the project gallery of this class to share with me and other students.

I crafted this class as a guide to dramatic watercolor galaxy paintings. With many tips and examples, we will cover everything from ways to approach galaxy painting, to painting from reference, using key watercolor techniques and adding stars and highlights that pop off the page.
