This course details the modern history of India from the advent of the Europeans up to the end of the freedom struggle in pre-independence India. It covers topics such as the Portuguese in India, Dutch, English, French and Danish presence, Mughal rulers, the Battle of Panipat and the states after its demise, as well as the Europeans conquering India, the Battle of Plassey and the Treaty of Allahabad. It also covers European Company Rule, including the Mysore wars and the Maratha Confedearcy. The course also covers the reforms initiated by the British, such as Carrot & Stick policy, Indian Council Act of 1909, some of the major Reform Movements such as Raja Ram Mohan Roy and other leaders of the reform movement. Moreover, the course covers topics such as the rise of Political Organizations before Indian National Congress, formation of Indian National Congress, Lucknow Pact 1916, Montague Statement, Non-Cooperation Movement, Khilafat Movement, Swaraj Party,Simon Commission, Nehru Report, Civil Disobedience Movement, Government of India Act 1935, Congress Ministries and Subhas Chandra Bose’s role.
