Overview

This course is designed to teach about the history of India relevant to the UPSC IAS Examination. It begins with pre-history and covers the ancient Indus Valley Civilization, Vedic Age, Janapadas and Mahajanapadas, Buddhist and Jainism, The Mauryas and Post-Mauryas, as well as the Sangam Age. It also covers early and late Medieval India: Ghazni, Ghouri and the rise of Delhi Sultanate, the Delhi Sultanate and the Mughal characterstics, later Mughals, Marathas|Nawabs of Bengal and Oudh|Sikhs of Punjab, Vijaynagar Empire, Bahmani Sultanate and other Regional Kingdoms. Finally, the course explores British Rule in India with its characteristics, the rise of Indian Nationalism between 1860 to 1906 and the Indian National Movement from 1907 to 1924, and then again from 1939 to 1947.
