I thoroughly enjoyed the TEDx talk of Dr. Maria Burns. She explains the risks of human trafficking, and why some members of our society are more vulnerable, and more prone to trafficking. She discusses how peoples' online and social media habits have changed since Covid. Traffickers hide behind the anonymity of fake accounts, and can easily target their victims. Finally, she identifies that trafficking is a complex, asymmetrical crime that requires complex, asymmetrical solutions. She urges governments, scientists, and our society, to work together and fight trafficking.

This is a very informative TEDx talk. Dr. Maria Burns is a University of Houston professor who uses STEM tools to better understand trafficking. She cautions students and young people against the potential dangers of the internet. Traffickers are masters of disguise and often hide behind the anonymity of the internet. The professor is both factual, describing her work in data analysis and policy analysis, but also compassionate.
