Open edX Conference 2024: Call for Proposals

The 2024 edition will be held in South Africa, at Stellenbosch University. Submit your proposals by Jan 17.

In 2024, the Open edX Conference goes South. It will be held from July 2 to 5 at the University of Stellenbosch, which neighbors the beautiful city of Cape Town, in South Africa.

The event will be an opportunity to explore open education, with a focus on the Open edX platform. It aims to bring together educators, researchers, and developers to discuss current trends and future possibilities of the Open edX ecosystem, and by extension, of online education.

Registrations are already open, along with the opportunity to contribute. Among others, the conference welcomes proposals on topics such as instructional design, learning analytics, and software innovation, in the context of Open edX. The submission deadline is January 17.

Program

The program will be structured around four tracks covering all facets of Open edX and its evolving role in the online education landscape.

The event will span four days and include a variety of sessions ranging from lightning talks to workshops. In addition, keynotes will be led by yet-to-be-announced but undoubtedly distinguished speakers. If you can’t attend the event in full, know that the keynotes will be on July 3 and 4.

We’ll update the article with more details once the speakers are formally announced.

You can find more information on the conference website.

Call for Proposals

This year, the program will be expanded with the addition of a new track, dedicated to case studies. The conference invites proposals related to the following topics:

  • Case Studies: For those who’d like to share their experience using Open edX, focusing on impactful projects and effective strategies for promoting courses.
  • Pedagogy & Instruction: Targeting educators and course teams, emphasizing course design and creation, and effective approaches for teaching online.
  • Trends & Impact: Inviting edtech leadership to discuss new features, trends in online learning, and analytics, as well as their significance for Open edX.
  • Development & Operations: For developers, focusing on technical insights, platform integration, and best operational practices.

The session formats include 10- or 45-minute talks, and 90-minute workshops. Proposals are due by January 17, 2024. But if you submit by December 13, 2023, you will be included in a preliminary review, giving you the chance to make adjustments and resubmit.

You can find the full call for proposals here.
