Open edX Conference 2023: Program & CFP

The event will be held at MIT on March 28–31. The deadline for submitting a session proposal is January 23.

In 2023, the Open edX Conference returns to its roots. The event will be held on March 28–31 at MIT, one of the institutions that gave rise to the Open edX platform.

The conference is interested in the development of open education, with an emphasis on the Open edX platform and its uses today and tomorrow. In particular, the conference welcomes the perspectives of educators, researchers, and developers.

Registrations are currently open as well as the call for proposals. You can submit a session proposal till January 23 on topics such as instructional design, learning analytics, and platform development.

Program

The conference program will span four days, with sessions including lightning talks, interactive workshops, and keynotes.

As usual, the conference will have three keynote speakers, but only two have been confirmed so far:

  • Anant Agarwal, cofounder and former CEO of edX, and currently Chief Platform Officer at 2U.
  • Justin Reich, director of the MIT Teaching Systems Lab and instructor of several open courses.

You can find more information about the conference speakers in this announcement post.

Call for Proposals

The conference welcomes proposals falling broadly into three categories:

  • Pedagogy & Instruction — inviting educators to share their perspective on how to improve instruction, reach, learning outcomes, and innovation in Open edX courses.
  • Product & Usage — inviting researchers and product owners to discuss learning analytics, novel features, and emerging trends likely to impact Open edX’s trajectory.
  • Development & Operation — inviting developers to shed light on technical aspects of Open edX, its codebase, dedicated tools, and operation best practices.

Sessions accepted include 10-minute lightning talks, 45-minute standard talks, and 90-minute workshops.

The deadline for submitting session proposals is January 23, 2023. You can find the full call for proposals here.

Registration

Conference registrations are open. Discounted early-bird tickets are currently available as well as discounted student tickets. You can find more information on how to register here.
