Course Review: Quickstart Your Qlik Sense Journey with This Tutorial

In this beginner’s course to Qlik Sense, you will learn everything you need to get started in less than 3 hours.

I changed my job and found myself managing new enterprise resource planning (ERP) and other software that I had not used before, including Qlik Sense. Although I had read some articles about QlikView, Qlik Sense was different. Immediately after accepting my new job offer, I jumped onto my computer and searched for tutorials about Qlik Sense on Class Central. Fortunately, I found this course: Qlik Sense Tutorial for Beginners – Qlik Sense Training by Simon Sez IT.

With no prior knowledge about Qlik Sense, I joined the course and within 5 hours of watching and practicing the 2.5-hour video tutorial, I started using the Qlik Sense cloud version to create sheets, insights, and storytelling. It was a great experience. The practical nature of the video tutorial made it easy to follow the instructor, replicate his actions, and achieve the same results.

What is Qlik Sense?

About the Course

From “Qlik Interface” lesson.

There is no certificate attached to the course, but the knowledge gained is valuable. The course is a 2.5-hour video tutorial that starts with an introduction and definition of Qlik Sense and covers data visualization and some exercises. The tutorial takes a practical approach to using Qlik Sense to create visualizations for strategic decision-making. It assumes zero knowledge of Qlik Sense and builds the learner from no knowledge to a beginner level Qlik Sense user. In order to start the course, access to Qlik Sense is required. Qlik Sense has three variants, including Qlik Enterprise, Qlik Cloud, and Qlik Desktop. For the purpose of this course, I used Qlik Cloud with a free 30-day trial from www.qlik.com. It is advisable to create an account to follow what Simon is teaching and see the outcome as you progress through the course. Having the free trial account will give the learner the opportunity to experiment with the analytical features of Qlik.

Qlik Sense has the following features:

  • Smart visualization and analytics;
  • Self service creation;
  • Centralized sharing and collaboration;
  • Storytelling and reporting;
  • Mobility;
  • Data preparation and integration.

What is wonderful about the course is that as you do what Simon does on your free Qlik trial account, you will get the same result, thereby making you feel awesome during the learning process. This will encourage you to follow the tutorial with enthusiasm.

Time Requirement

This is a video tutorial, and if you prefer video tutorials like me, it will be easy for you. It is just 2.5 hours and can be watched at a stretch, but it took me 5 hours within 2 days because I had to practice along with Simon, and I also had to pause for a cup of coffee. Just schedule yourself and start. With your free Qlik account, you may finish on time.

Conclusion

This is a great tutorial to help kickstart your journey into the Qlik world. Just as the tutorial is for beginners, you will need more learning to become an expert in Qlik. There are a lot of tutorials on Class Central on Qlik Sense. Simon has another tutorial on Qlik Sense Advanced. It would be helpful to learn more from these tutorials to solidify your knowledge of Qlik Sense.
