Abstract Painting for Beginners | Tools, Colors, and Texture

via Skillshare

Overview

Welcome!

In this class, I will show you how to get started with your abstract painting from the very beginning. First, I will explain the various color options such as warm tones and cool tones. Warm tone examples are yellow, red, and orange and your cool tone examples are blue, green, and purple. Also, I will explain the compliment colors as well, for an intermediate option.

When you are just starting out I recommend limiting your colors, so you aren't overwhelmed and end up with muddy looking colors. I will show you a variety of tools to get started with such as sponges, scrapers, and brushes. All of these tools can help add texture to your painting and make it more interesting.

Next, You are going to pick your style of painting. For beginners, you can choose basic organic shapes or geometrical shapes. Lastly, I will explain color balance and contrast throughout your painting.
