Overview

This course gives you an overview of basic principles of yoga therapy along with yogic understanding of health and disease.You will understand the cause, symptoms, types, investigation, and management methods of Diabetes. This course provides a detailed overview of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Stress plays a significant role in the manifestation of Diabetes Mellitus. An integrated approach to Yoga therapy in the management of Diabetes Mellitus along with stress management and yogic counselling will be discussed. Course also includes the detailed practical sessions where You will learn IAYT for type 1 and type 2 DM. Loosening exercises, breathing exercises, asana, bandha, kriyas and pranayama techniques beneficial in DM will be highlighted in the practical sessions of the course.Intended audience: This course is not for patients with diabetes, this is for yoga teachers and yoga learners to enhance their knowledge and skill in Yoga Therapy.

THEORY
Week 1• Module 1: Basic principles of yoga therapy• Module 2: Concept of health and disease in yogic science
Week 2• Module 3: Integrated approach of yoga therapy (IAYT) for diabetes mellitus.• Module 4: Stress according to ancient and modern science
Week 3• Module 5: Introduction of Diabetes Mellitus• Module 6: Understanding of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
Week 4• Module 7: Understanding of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus• Module 8: Pharmacological management of Diabetes
Week 5• Module 9: Asanas and Pranayama for Diabetes Mellitus• Module 10: Role of meditation in Diabetes Mellitus
Week 6• Module 11: Yogic diet for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus• Module 12: Stress management and yogic counselling for Diabetes Mellitus
PRACTICALS

Week 7• Module 13: Loosening exercises (Standing- Forward backward bending, Side bending, Spinal twisting, Alternate toe touching, Palm pose twist & Jogging)• Module 14: Loosening exercises (Sitting: Chakkichalana, bhunamanasana twist &nauka sanchalana)• Module 15: Loosening exercises (Supine: Pavana muktasana kriya, cycling & gatyatmak paschimottanasa)
Week 8• Module 16: Breathing exercises (Standing & Sitting: Hands in and out breathing, hand stretch breathing, ankle stretch breathing, tiger breathing & shashankasana breathing)• Module 17: Breathing exercises (Prone & Supine: Bhujangasana breathing, Straight leg raise breathing (single leg), Straight leg raise breathing (both legs) and setubandasana breathing)• Module 18: Suryanamaskara and Quick Relaxation Technique

Week 12• Module 26: Asana- Prone (Bhujangasana, Tiryak Bhujangasana, Dhanurasana & Hamsasana)• Module 27: Savasana (Deep relaxation technique)
